I can’t run 3 miles.
I can’t do a pullup.
I can’t squat.
I can’t ride a bike.
I can’t find a job.
I can’t touch my toes.
I can’t laugh without wheezing.
I can’t wake up in the morning and not sneeze.
I can’t do an overhead squat.
I can’t do a squat snatch.
I can’t quit my job and do something I am passionate about.
I can’t move to the beach.
I can’t be an inspiration to others.
I can’t lose 20 lbs.
I can’t do 10 pushups.
I can’t hit that baseball.
I can’t pass this class.
I can’t be a coach.
I can’t write this paper.
I can’t forgive this person.
I can’t be the bigger person.
I can’t carry that.
I can’t tell my parents how I really feel.
I can’t stand up for myself.
Yeah, that is a hell of a lot of “Can’ts.” It is staggering to look at all of those and imagine at one time I said all of those things to myself. These are all thoughts that have run through my head throughout my life. Just the thought of saying those things to myself gives me the hibbi-gibbies. How do you stack up to all that negativity? How do you even match that, or come out on top when this is the voice in your own head?
I would imagine that a few of these may have common ground in your life. What are these can’ts in your life? Do you even notice that they are there? Chances are these “can’ts” are putting high fences around each waking moment. The control that this can have in your life is exhausting. It doesn’t leave much room for positivity. You just remain encased in this cave of pity. That is no way to go through life.
Barbell Club is a “thing.”
I am not saying that these thoughts ever truly go away. I am not saying that I have this all figured out, either. These things still go through my mind. But, I can tell you that each time one of these thoughts even enters that space between your ears, it is a giant opportunity to make a tremendous ripple that may change the current in your life. Noticing these times is the first step. Once you notice these then all you have to do is take the wheel and make it into something of the past.
We all have tough days, and tough times in our lives. The best are only the best because some are truly the greatest of struggles. “We” in this Beautiful Monster of a Nation, are here to get each other through these times, and be an Unrelenting Positive Force for each other. I am sure I will have some rough times, I am sure each of you will have some (Can’t) days. Bring it here!! We will make quick work of all those, and we’ll all be better for it. We are all on the same Journey. Lets enjoy it!! Positive will alway win out over Negative!
